Essential Functions:

  • Performs a variety of duties associated with construction leading to building and maintaining trails, parks, and parking lots including clearing, grading, paving, finish grading, etc.
  • Responsible for construction type duties including loading/unloading building materials, hauling materials and equipment, building of temporary structures, digging, trenching, or compacting areas for construction.
  • Responsible for safely and effectively operating and tending to a variety of equipment and heavy machinery including tractors with attachments, pavers, rollers, excavators, trucks and trailers, chippers, skid steers, mowing equipment with appropriate attachments, etc.
  • Responsible for regularly reviewing equipment and machinery in order to ensure top working condition through use of daily inspections, maintenance log reviews, and on the job knowledge.
  • Performs trail maintenance duties including operation of appropriate equipment (chipper, brush hog, mower, paver, etc.), spreading materials, measuring progress, signage installations, etc. as needed.
  • Effectively interacts with park patrons and manages difficult situations involving patron concerns appropriately.
  • Safely and effectively uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in performance of duties; responsible for complying with a variety of safety regulations and maintaining clean and orderly work areas and park owned vehicles.
  • Safely and effectively complete snow removal duties. Responsible for responding to severe weather conditions such as snow, flooding, or wind damage as needed and using appropriate snow removal equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ensures compliance with Stark County Park District and Operations Department policies and standards relating to safety and safe operation and upkeep of construction equipment.


  • Working knowledge of construction field, particularly building and maintenance of various trails, structures, and parking lots        
  • Experienced and proficient in operating a variety of heavy construction equipment safely and effectively
  • Familiarity with OSHA, PERRP, and SDS standards
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team        
  • Must be able to read, interpret and implement blueprints and construction plans        
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills        
  • Excellent customer service skills

Basic Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Three (3) years of relevant work experience and a valid Class A driver's license required.

Union Dues: $22.94 bi-weekly, after 90 days worked

Pay: $14.03 until after successful completion of 90 days worked, increase to $15.59 after successful 90 days worked.

Must be eligible for employment in the United States, have a valid driver's license, and be insurable. Pre-employment background check and drug screening will be performed.
